Celebrating Upper Valley Farmer's Markets

Posted by admin on Sun Aug 1 21:06:18 2010 to Upper Valley Food

As Vital Communities recently pointed out on Valley Buzz, the week of August 1 through August 7, 2010, is National Farmer's Market week. August is a great time for farmer's markets - virtually everything is in season except for apples, pears and pumpkins, and the weather is usually good.

If you live in the Upper Valley, odds are there's a market not far from you. Markets generally operate from May or June through September or October. Even in the early and late months you might be surprised at what's available at the market. Not only local vegetables and fruits, but meat, cheese, eggs, jams, pickles, bread and baked goods, honey and maple syrup, as well as crafts - fabrics, wool, pottery, candles, soaps, even furniture. Many markets also feature live music and occasional animals, and are great places for kids. The details vary market to market, so check out your local market to see what they offer.

To celebrate local farmer's markets, UVFood will be focussing on one vendor from a local farmer's market every day until the end of August. I wish there were more days available; they are many great vendors who attend the markets who I won't be able to include this time around, and if you're a vendor I miss, I do apologize to you. I do want to mention here that UVFood does not accept any payment, freebies or any other form of compensation for mentioning local businesses in articles.

Here's a list of farmer's markets in the Upper Valley:

This is a live list and will be up-to-date even if you find this article years after it was published.
