Christmas Dinners in the Upper Valley (2009)

You won't find many places to go out to eat on Christmas day - even McDonald's and Denny's are closed then (that is a slight exaggeration; many fast food restaurants are open Christmas morning). You have two options for an actual Christmas dinner on Christmas day: the Quechee Inn at Marshland Farm, and Juniper Hill Inn in Windsor.

The Quechee Inn at Marshland Farm, which has three courses for $49, with dishes including roasted beet salad, beef carpaccio, filet mignon and crispy roasted duck.

Juniper Hill Inn is serving a "Currier & Ives" Christmas Dinner, with dishes like boneless goose stuffed with rabbit, herb crusted tenderloin of beef stuffed with goat cheese and mini-pumpkin creme brulee.

For Christmas Eve dinner you have three choices: You can dine at Plainfield's Home Hill Inn, with a three course prix fixe dinner featuring dishes like prime rib, lobster bisque, wild game terrine, roast goose, baked alaska and figgy pudding, for $49.

In Windsor you can dine at Juniper Hill Inn and enjoy their traditional Flemish Christmas eve dinner.

Or, you can head to Reading, VT's Seedhouse Inn, and indulge in their five course $45 prixe fixe menu including dishes like roast goose, prime rib and bouche de Noel.

Allechante in Norwich and Woodstock will be offering Christmas-y prepared foods all week, and, along with many bakeries like Hanover's Umpleby's, will be offering Christmas standards like stollen, Buche de Noel (the yule log cake), and Christmas cookies.

As always, reservations for Christmas dinners are absolutely essential, so call as soon as possible if you want to get a spot at one of these dinners!
