Foodie Films in the Upper Valley

With both "Jules & Julia" and "Food Inc." playing this weekend, it's a good weekend for food movies in the Upper Valley.

The Nugget has held "Julie & Julia" over an extra week; it's now ending on Thursday October 8th. Based on two books, Julie Powell's "Julie and Julia" and Julia Child's My Life in France, the film stars Meryl Streep as Julia Child and Amy Adams and Julie. Although Julie never met Julia, she decides to recreate each recipe from Mastering the Art of French Cooking, imagining Julia Child fearlessly working her way through the book.

Also, Dartmouth's Hopkins Center is showing "Food Inc" on Saturday evening (October 3, 2009) at 7:30PM in the Spaulding Auditorium. The topic will be familiar to anyone who's read "The Omnivore's Dilemma", and the film even includes interviews with Michael Pollan. Tickets are available to the public, and the movie will be followed by a discussion of the topics raised in it.
