Ok, it is really 2.5 stars. Reading other reviews of the Claremont C Man confirmed that their food quality is inconsistent. We were there last fall, four of us. We had a booth and it was tight and there was a LOT of stuff on the table. Drink orders were quick and accurate. Entrees delivered at the right time. While we all ordered something different, three of us had the same sides, mashed potatoes and carrots. ALL the side were cold. The waiter asked if everything was ok and we told him about the problem with the sides...he disappeared without saying anything - weird. A couple of minutes later, the waiter and manager came with fresh hot sides in separate bowls. Great! I thought. The Manager apologized and should have left it at that. But he went on to explained that the sides are in big vats in the steam table and our waiter simply should have stirred them, before dishing them the first time. OMG!

My faith has been restored, three of us went to the Common Man in Claremont. We were greeted by the Hostess and seated promptly. Our waiter came over and introduced himself "Scott". A waitress had stopped by our table and inquired if our waiter had stopped by. My brother and I both ordered the Baked Onion Soup to start. It was excellent and worth the price. For an entree, I and my brother both ordered the New England Pot Roast, which is "tender braised pot roast, homemade mashed potatoes, vegetable pan sauce", my wife ordered the Vegetable Medley which is "Roasted portabella mushroom with a warm roasted summer vegetable salad and grilled vegetable ravioli drizzled with an herb dressing". Our waiter brought out warm bread and shortly after our soups.
We had a comfortable short wait for our entrees. Our waiter came by to inquiry if everything was to our liking, and it was, the beef was so tender and the gravy on top was delicious. My wife said that the Vegetable Medley was excellent, in fact better than the last time we were there. The hostess stopped by to inquire as to our satisfaction of the meal and service, which we all let her know of our satisfaction with the total dinner and the service. This was an excelent dining experience and one you would expect from a Common Man Restaurant. It was nice to see that the waitstaff cared about the guest. five gold stars

Four of us went to the Common Man on Saturday. The waiter took our drink order and stopped our table from wobbling. The waiter told us about the soup on special and the nightly specials, said it was like Chicken pot pie, with chicken, potatoes and vegetables and a homemade biscuit on top. When he returned with our drinks we asked why the specials list said the soup was turkey and spinach, but yet he had said chicken. He replied that it was turkey with spinach but with other vegetables, but "like" a chicken pot pie.
mmmm that's a little confusing, and not good if your on certain med's. Three of us ordered the soup. The soup was excellent, very favorful. I ordered the Apple Chicken with mashed potatoes and vegetables. My wife and my brother's girlfriend order the vegetable medley, and my brother ordered the meatloaf with rice pilaf and vegetables. The entrees came out in a timely manner. The chicken was wonderful, but the vegetables were way over done and watery. This water from the vegetables was running all over the plate, the mashed potatoes were soaking it up, it brought the flavor of everything down. The sauce around the chicken was thinned. My brother who also had the vegetables his were overcooked, but did not have the water that was on my plate. The waiter asked how everything was and when I told him, he shrugged his shoulders and left. He didn't come back until we asked the host if we could get more iced tea. We ran out of water and iced tea during the meal. I hate to say it but the quality of food and service are going downhill. This is the second time in two weeks that I have gone in here and gotten bad service or food that I know was not up to Common Man standards. What's going on? one gold star

Two of us had dinner on Tuesday, 5/4/10. We were promptly seated, Ordered our starter which was the seasonal salad. The salad was extremely tasty with cranberries, candied walnuts and a light dressing.
Perfect start for a meal. Next came breads then our meals. We both had the Pork Tenderloin with a maple glaze, included mashed potatoes w/scallions and freshed vegetables. The entree was perfect. I like the fact that your not rushed or have a waiter hanging over you. For dessert we had the carrot cake. A perfect ending to a great meal. Our waitress was fantastic, friendly and fast.

Two of us had dinner on Saturday 5/1/2010. We have eaten at two other locations and always enjoyed our meals. Last night, we ordered a bottle of wine, ordered our meals and waited over an hour for our food to arrive. My husband ordered the Nantucket seafood pasta dish and it arrived cold. I ordered the vegetable ravioli which was lukewarm and the pasta was not well cooked so it was rubbery. We had been checking with the waitress who kept telling us our food had not come out yet. The manager did take the my husband's meal back and reheated it and took the dinner off the check, but the experience certainly will keep us from going back.

Finally, I found the best Prime Rib in the Upper Valley. Very nice atmosphere. Friendly service. Tempting menu. Difficult to find. I'll certainly go back for more.

01/30/2010: Four of us for dinner, we arrived at Common Man at 5:10. amd were seated by 5:15. Very friendly staff, We were seated at a table for 4 which should be a table for 3 max. Small table, made even smaller with everything on it. We were crowded. The menu has quite a bit to chose from. We were brought bread and butter. The dark bread is very tasty, the white bread has a nice crunch on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside.
They have cheese and dip available with crackers. My brothers' girlfriend had the Lobster Corn Chowder served in a bread bowl as her entree (Maine Lobster, corn, cream, sherry), my wife had the meatloaf as did my brother. (Beef, pork and veal, caramelized onion and pan gravy). I had the Chicken Saute, (chicken tossed with tomatoes, spinach, and creamy pesto over bucatini)(curly pasta). It was excellent. The meatloaf was superb according to both my brother and my wife. The lobster corn chowder had a large piece of lobster laid on top, and a few little pieces within the chowder, and tasted great. The meatloaf comes with potato and string beans. An excellent meal overall. five gold stars

Old: I had dinner at the Common Man in Claremont recently. It has a warm welcoming feel to it when you walk in with couches, stuffed chairs. They offer you chesse and crackers while you wait to be seated. We were told it would be roughly a 30 minute wait, and it was pretty close, going over slightly. We were seated a a booth, very comfortable. The lighting is a bit dim. There was an overhead globe light, and a fuel lantern on our table. I immediately noticed how cold it was. My wife had to wear her jacket for the majority of the meal. We started our meal with soup, she had the soup of the day, which was tomato based, I had the Baked Onion soup, absolutely wonderful. For the entrees, my wife had the Rock Crab Cakes with lemon basil aioli. I had the Apple Chicken which is "Walnut-Crusted Boneless Breast of Chicken browned with cheddar drizzled with apple cider glaze, Common Man corn bread. We both chose Parmesan Cheese Potatoes, and they came with Green Beans. The meal was excellent, the flavors, the presentation, all excellent. My coffee cup never went empty. We were both too full for dessert, and I am a dessert eater. The only down fall to this place was how cold it was, but by the time we were ready to leave it had warmed up. four gold stars yes

I had dinner at the Common man last month. The venu is well appointed with oriental rugs, little nooks to have a cocktail in, and a greatmenu. We both had the stuffed peppers which were wonderful. Highly recommend the Claremont location.
