* A classic 1930’s Worcestor Diner Car, well maintained, but with just enough of that worn-around-the-edges look. Perfect diner architecture.
* Great food. This place has, in my humble opinion, the best home fries in the area, and makes a seriously mean biscuits and gravy (one that my colleagues in Tennessee would be happy to be served), pictured here. They also do a good French toast, have nice thick bacon, and, like some of my other favorite diners, have serious command over their grill. I also heartily recommend their hot turkey or roast beef sandwiches if you are there for lunch (no mystery meat here). Unlike most establishments in New England, you can get grits here as well.
* Good service. Family owned for at least the entire time I’ve lived here, the staff is friendly and efficient.
* Good clientele. This place draws on the whole cross-section of Claremont’s population, which is a lot more colorful than many towns around here.
* Cheap. This is one of the cheaper places I eat around here.
Of the few downsides:
* This is definitely a stick-to-your-ribs breakfast joint, and doesn’t usually have (or need) any fancy “specialsâ€
* Like most of my Diner destinations, you’ve got to be a bit dedicated to go down to Claremont just for a bite to eat. Although I do like wandering around the old mill district. Again, Claremont Scenesters, help me fill this out…
* The hours are somewhat limited, especially on Sunday. I’ve actually found them closed on more than one occasion when I’ve had the munchies.
