The food is usually very tasty, and we enjoy it. Service leaves a lot to be desired. While people are very pleasant, it feels like there's no training on when to check in on people, how to actually wait on a table-- we've frequently sat for a very long time without water or even silverware (on 2 occasions) after our meal arrived. We tried to remedy that by just doing takeout, but the order is wrong 90% of the time & we haven't felt the food is really worth that much hassle. Still, once in a while, when we're really craving Mexican, this is the only place we'll go.

consistently good food at good prices. it is often crowded and noisy, but new table partitions have helped somewhat. despite the hectic atmosphere, service is usually great. drinks can be a bit pricey, but it is easy to find good deals on food (half price on all food at the bar from 3-6, $30 dinner/movie deal on wednesdays, and frequent buy-one-get-one entree coupons).

Great for takeout, but the restaurant in Lebanon is where you want to go for a sit-down Mexican experience. There isn't much to pick from in the Upper Valley for Mexican food, but I'd steer clear of Margueritaville, or whatever it's called. Yikes--gringos making Mexican food.

We've been going to Gusanoz several times a year since it opened. Their salsa verde and chips are great (except once recently they were too salty, but that an aberration) and the carnitas are excellent. The lunch specials are well-priced and all better than fast food. The beans at Margarita's I can't even eat (I make better at home) but Gusanoz does slightly better than I do, so it's worth going. They also have great deals and events for kids. That said, the service is on a downward spiral. We used to get such great attention there, but they're so understaffed now it's sad. We went for a quick lunch during the week, and the place was hopping with 20 seated tables, but only one server. Maybe they got caught unawares, but your best best is to aim for a time of day when it'll be dead (say, 2:30-4 PM) - they'll have at least one sever on. Dinner has taken over two hours, including the wait (because the meal took 1:30 due to slow service). Their prices are much better than Margarita's, but they could use some more metrics-based management.

Good food, but every time I go there the service is slower and less attentive than the time previous.

Gusanos is good cheap food well done. If you are there between 3pm and 6pm and eat at the bar the food is 1/2 price. Can't be beat

Fruit flies? Seriously? One thing I can say about Gusanoz is that I've never had any issues with cleanliness there. Given that your only two posts are bashing Gusanoz' locations I am very suspicious of what you have to say.

Some of the worst service I have ever had in a restaurant. The friends that I was dining with summed up their experience as complete frustration. If you like middle of the road Mexican food combined with a staff that is happy to ignore you, this is your place!

I always want to like Gusanoz, it's why I go back. The service is consistently bad and the food just okay. The food and the drinks at Margaritas are just better even if a little more commercial. Sorry Gusanoz, but I think we're breaking up, I just can't do mediocre anymore.

I feel that Gusanoz has gotten a bad rap for service... They seem to me to have really put some effort into improving service in the last few months. We eat there often; it's a go-to place or us when we're not feeling like cooking, and I've noticed the difference... the same servers have been there quite a while now, we remember them, they remember us. We're told our server's name when we're seated, and they're usually there quite promptly. I think the level of service at Gusanoz was appropriate before these changes, and it's only improved with them.

Great, authentic Mexican. Have had lots of good Mexican food in S. CA, but Gusanoz is the best. You can't beat their carnitas. Mojitos are not great, but the tequila selection is! Love the atmosphere & have always had friendly service. Sign up for their email list & you'll always be in the know for great deals & coupons. We eat here at least twice/month.

Please don't let these few negative reviews sway you. We offer our guests the oppotunity to provide us with anonymous feedback via comment cards, and although not every card rates us all perfect scores, the overwhelming majority indicate that they had a very enjoyable experience and plan on returning. Our food is made from scratch and may take a few minutes longer than Margaritas; that won't change. As for flavor I encourage you to try it for yourself. I have never in my life worked in a place that has so many loyal customers who have so many kind things to say. As for my star rating I will put in a 3 so I don't influence our rating upwards of where it is currently. Come check us out. You will be glad that you did. Thank you.

I agree with fepe's review. Gusanoz was quite good (although a bit uneven) at first. Now, it's not worth going.

Gusanoz was promising when it first opened up, as the UV desperately needs some real Mexican food. Margaritas is bad tex-mex, and the other past Mexican restaurants here Shorty’s (bad tex-mex again) and Mojos all closed down long ago. Too bad Gusanoz has never lived up to that promise. The best items they have are the Chicken Mole enchiladas and their salsa verde for the chips. Everything else I have tried has been a bland, flavorless, and a disappointment. Why go out for Mexican when you can easily make it better at home? For a vegetarian there is nothing worth trying. The bean burritos and guacamole tostadas are once again suffering from being bland and uninspired. Tried the spinach burrito once and it had such a strong spinach flavor Popeye couldn’t even eat it. It makes me question if the cooks even eat the food they are preparing. Adding some spice and flavor to the dishes would be a good first step. One example is the sad limp yellow rice served with all the meals. It tastes like nothing.

Sadly the closest places for real Mexican food are 1) Candeleros in Manchester, VT 2) Las Pinatas in Laconia, NH and the best in the area by far has got to be La Caretta with locations in Manchester, NH, Keene, and Derry.

You owe it to yourself to try La Caretta sometime. It is authentic and delicious.

The best Mexican food in the Upper Valley but that's not saying much. The food is decent, but stay away from the guacamole. They use too much lemon and it ends up slimy. The service is slow which is unusual for a Mexican restaurant. Give yourself plenty of time to eat if you're trying to catch a movie afterwards.

Good food, I love the carnitas too. Fairly small, kind of cramped really. It's a little tricky with a big party, moving small uneven tables and just getting them to allocate enough tables for you. Things can be slow (we missed our movie once). But, the food is good.
