With the limited options in the UV this is indeed the best Chinese food offered. The Orient has been able to distance itself from all of the credit-card fraud problems that plagued "The Panda House" which used to be at the same location. That doesn't happen anymore. The Orient is great in my opinion because of their inclusion of some of the best Chinese vegetarian entrees not just in the UV but probably most of NE. The vegetarian General Tso's chicken is simply awesome. They use the faux meat Seitan (wheat-gluten) instead of chicken and it tastes amazing. It is interesting to find seitan on a menu instead of the typical vegetarian substitute tofu or mushrooms. The "meat" is lightly breaded and fried just like the traditional dish, and includes mushrooms, green onions, peppers, and broccoli all in a slightly spicy sweet citrus sauce. Yum!
The service is usually fast and efficient, and the interior is completely suitable for being in the basement of the building. The sushi there is just plain and while completely suitable nothing to write home about. It is definitely a step up from what you can get at Peking-Tokyo in terms of the Chinese dishes. I'd say Peking has better Japanese selections. But both are way behind Yama in those terms. I recommend the Orient.

Best Chinese food in the area. I will agree that service is somewhat slow - this is not an eat and run kind of place. Given that we're in a rural place, they combine Chinese and Japanese (sushi) in one place. Still, both are exceptional.

The Orient Chinese Restaurant is the closest thing you'll get to for decent Chinese food. To say it's the best in the Upper Valley, probably so but that's not saying much. The food is ok but the service was a bit slow given the size of the restaurant, they would do well to put more people on staff during busy hours. Give yourself some time when dining there.
