Service: Always excellent. Staff have great personalities. They even suggest Korean food that may not be on the menu. Food comes out very quickly even with a full house.
Food: Honestly one of the best restaurants in New England. Food is consistent and tasty.

We love Yama! I've been going regularly since they opened. Their sushi is fantastic, and since I became a parent I have come to really appreciate what a truly family-friendly restaurant Yama is. They go out of their way to make sure that kids are happy, offering little toys, bringing a dish of tofu or rice before the adults even order, taking pictures, playing peek-a-boo as they walk by, etc. We love the pictures of happy patrons all around. Our eldest loves to find the pictures of herself as a baby enjoying her sushi.
The multiple pickled dishes they serve as apps are delicious. I have tried many of their Korean dishes and found them to be scrumptious, but I'm such a sushi fanatic that I rarely order anything else.
The casual feel of this original location is part of its charm--who would guess that perhaps the best food in the UV would be served amidst the orange chairs and no-frills decor. And for takeout, it can't be beat. They truly aim to please.

The other thing I'll mention about Yama is that they seem to be a very good place to take kids. The staff obviously likes kids, likes to give them the learning chopsticks and explain the food to them, and make sure they are happy.

It's time for a physical description of the place. Convenient for all, just off the Route 4 bridge connecting White River Junction with West Lebanon. Pull in off Route 4 to a parking lot and be wonderfully welcomed by an extended Asian family that loves the food it's preparing. You can read below about the dishes in particular. What you might want to know is that it's casual, the tables are well set apart (there are twelve), and that you can have one of four Sutter wines at $16 each a bottle, or a bottle of sake for $10.95. We were bowled over by the cheerfulness of the place, and the number of people waiting for tables. There's a frieze of family photographs running from one side of the restaurant to the other, a reminder that you don't have to spend millions to create atmosphere. Come here when you want clear, highly punctuated flavors, caring service (we watched a table changeover when the setter-up squinted three times with a table spray before deciding it was clean enough for the next party), and a check that won't set you back. The miso soup, served as we sat down, and the tiny plates of vegetables and tofu to nibble on before we ordered, gave us the impression that this is a family restaurant that genuinely wants to serve the community.

Yama - clearly a popular place, based on the ratings here and the wait patrons must endure to get a table many nights of the week. The food is great, and authentic. The description above states "the best Asian food. . ." Make note that this is NOT Chinese food. It is Korean food first and foremost, with a good selection of Japanese as well. Sushi is delicious here.

Yama's by far is the best ethnic food in the Upper Valley. The sushi is fresh and the Korean food is as authentic as you can get. The brown rice green tea is complimentary which is a nice touch. Get there early as they have limited seating the wait list fills up quick.

They have excellent teriyaki and bulgoki lunch boxes. Their service is also delightful. The rice tea standard is also nice, and complements their often spicy/sour cuisine nicely.
